A great deal of emphasis is placed on character development. Imbued with the inner light and warmth of Chassidus, Machon Alte students are well prepared to make a contribution to the surrounding community through their far reaching volunteer work.

They conduct educational and recreational programs for children; they visit the elderly, providing companionship and emotional support; bringing a noticeable lift in spirits.

Our primary goal is to make traditional Judaism relevant to today's modern young Jewish woman in a warm, nurturing, and vibrant atmosphere. The role of the Jewish woman and the Jewish family is taken seriously and is central to our educational philosophy. We, therefore, place a unique emphasis on the practical lessons of Jewish life – from keeping a kosher kitchen to actually spending time with family role models on Shabbat and holidays.

Shabbos and Yom Tov hospitality is arranged for the students by Machon Alte with local families. Many students find close confidants with whom they can discuss personal matters.

Mixing together with people from all over the world from as far away as Singapore and Tasmania enriches one's personal experience and creates long lasting friendships.

The Israeli students are particularly patient tutors for the Hebrew language and warm hosts inviting overseas students to their homes, communities, kibbutzim, and moshavim.

Machon Alte encourages self expression in all areas of theatre, arts, and music. A wide range of extracurricular activities are available to Machon Alte students either on campus or neighboring facilities. These include Israeli dancing, aerobics, outdoor sports and swimming. Students with theatrical and creative ability write, produce and perform shows for Chanukah, Purim, and Shavuos. Those with musical talents present concerts for the community-at-large together with our many talented alumni and friends.

Many Machon Alte alumni choose to settle in Israel. Over 100 alumni families live in Safed alone and many more are spread out throughout the land. Over 1,000 alumni families are active members of Jewish communities throughout the world. They teach in Jewish Day Schools, adult classes and are active in outreach work. They run kindergarten classes and many assist their husbands with the managemnt of Chabad Outreach Centers. Without a doubt, all of them enrich their environments, translating lessons learned in the classroom into practical good deeds.
